The Math Behind the Calculation

Dog food labels do not usually list carbohydrates, so nutritionists estimate them by subtracting everything else from 100. The by-difference formula used here is:

Carbs (g/100g) = 100 − crude protein − crude fat − crude fiber − moisture − ash

Each value in the formula is expressed as a percentage by weight, which is the same as grams per 100 g.
